What happened to the news item about the new Miss Universe? Its certainly more topical than the Discovery landing? -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 20:46, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Not exactly sure, but thought I'd present this here. I know I should assume good faith, but I am a little worried, is all. Are we sure that the Tiger Woods image (Image:Tigerw.jpg) is okay to use on the main page? The uploader, User:PaddyBriggs seems to have a history of image violations and questions. Might want to look into it. Thanks. --LV 00:34, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Better safe than sorry, so I went ahead and switched the image back while I take a closer look and see if there's another picture available. Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:42, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- After a brief look, it seems to me that the picture was indeed taken by him. His user page says he's a sports journalist and amateur photographer, and a quick search on Google for his images found nothing. I would assume good faith, but don't want to risk placing a copyvio image on our main page, even though I think the licensing is correct. Thoughts? Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:52, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did a Google Image search and it didn't appear in the first 700 or so for "Tiger Woods". "Tigerw" gave mirrors, but nothing substantial. I just was a little wary about someone who has been warned about uploading unlicensed images to have one on the main page. Like you said, better safe than sorry. I'll keep checking on it though. Thanks. --LV 00:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

- Barring the emergence of evidence to the contrary, we should assume that the licensing is valid (just as we've done with Image:Floyd-landis-toctt.jpg, for which we also must accept the photographer's word). —David Levy 01:02, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, but if doubt is cast on the licensing (as You-Know-Who raised some concern) we should, ideally, take it off the main page while we look into the issue more. It doesn't really matter now, though, as another Landis item is in front now. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 13:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
