It has been a Repubblica Marinara (other 3 were Venice, Pisa, and Amalfi) and always a powerful town mainly oriented on the sea. Famous families as Doria had practically the complete control of northern Thyrrenian sea.
Genoa gave birth to many important navigators and sea explorers, among which Columbus.
In July of 2001 in opposition to the G8 Economic International Summit, the Genoa Social Forum brought to Genova half a million protesters from all around Europe.
Genoa is a lovely city in the middle of the Italian , one of the best known touristic resorts in the Genoa wellcomes you all and invites you to come visit her beauties and her many historic places.
