Betsy Bloomingdale was born Betty Lee Newling August 2, 1926 in Southern California; some sources indicate she was born in .Mrs. Bloomingdale is an internationally known socialite and the author of a book of entertaining. She is best known as a friend of Nancy and Ronald Reagan, and for her marriage to Alfred S. Bloomingdale.

Mrs. Bloomingdale is a Roman Catholic was involved in fundraising projects for the Los Angeles Cathedral.

Bloomingdale's life, marriage and her husband's well publicized affair were the basis of the Dominick Dunne novel, An Inconvenient Woman. Mrs. Bloomingdale is a life long resident of Los Angeles.
