Child sexual abuse is an act of sexual abuse in which an adult uses a child for sexual pleasure. Child sexual abuse is common in Nigeria and a report by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF in 2015 show that 6 out of 10 children are abused before they attain the age of 15 with half of these children experiencing physical violence and the abuse rarely occur once. According to United Nation, BBC reported in September 2014 that 1 in 10 girls had experienced sexual violence at early stage of their lifetime. However, cases reported to the law enforcement agents of Nigeria (Nigerian police) are less than unreported cases by parents or guidance of the victims.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported in September 2013 that over 20 cases of rape are recorded in Ibadan on a monthly basis and unemployment is one of the cause of sexual violence.

The punishment for child sexual abuse in Nigeria is life imprisonment according to the criminal code act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under section 218.
