By the year 2008, Vizag is planned to have an international airport, almost half of the runway work has been completed and is prepared to construct a big runway required for the international airport.The Night landing facilities have also been developed during the recent constructions.

"A new integrated terminal building will come up at a cost of Rs 95 crore, with all modern facilities. It will have three aero-bridges, three escalators and four elevators, apart from a visitors' gallery, conveyor belts, digital information systems, cyber cafe, conference room, departure and arrival lounges, duty-free outlets, permanent Customs and immigration counters and tourist information counters," according to Senior Manager (Air Traffic Control) and Station in-charge, Mr T. Purnachandra Rao.

The terminal is expected to be ready for use by the first quarter of 2007. "The 10,000-feet runway would be ready for operation by December 2006, as 50 per cent of the work had been completed," he said. The apron is being built to accommodate at least six wide-bodied aircraft like Boeing 767s and its equivalent variants at the same time.

Visakhapatnam is the head quarters of the Eastern Naval Command.

Many of the international airlines have expressed their regards to start from Visakhapatnam,once the facilities have been completed.As vizag is situated on the east coast,it is nearer to Bangkok(Thailand),Singapore,Colombo(Sri Lanka),Kuala Lumpur(Malaysia),Ho Chi Minh(Vietnam),and many other countries.....the airlines which showed interest are Silk Airways,Thai Airways International(Vizag will be the first city to be started in Andhra Pradesh),Sri Lankan Airways,Malaysian Airlines,Vietnam Airlines,Lufthansa,KLM Royal Dutch Airlines,Emirates,Royal Nepal Airlines,Bangladesh Biman and last but not the least the country Owned Air India...

At present Many domestic airliners are operating in vizag like the Country owned indian airlines,Air Sahara,Kingfisher Airlines,Air Deccan,Allaince Air(a subsidiary of indian airlines).........the future aspirant are Jet Airways this december from hyderabad and kolkata to visakhapatnam and Go Air,Indigo and other airlines r also having keen interest on setting up their bases in visakhapatnam.....
