Barbara Kalik (born November 8, 1936) is an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from the 7th Legislative District from 1978 to 1992. While serving in the New Jersey Assembly, Ms. Kalik held various positions, most notably deputy minority leader in 1986, and the first woman to hold the position of chairwoman of the Assembly Revenue, Finance, and Appropriations Committee in 1984-85. She also served as chair of the task force on equitable management revenue and expenditures, 1990, vice chairwoman of the joint appropriations committee, 1986—1987, and also served as a member of the judiciary, higher education and regulated professions committees. One significant accomplishment was ensuring the replacement of the dangerous bridge over the Rancocas Creek on Route 130 in Burlington County, New Jersey upstream of where it empties into the Delaware River.

She began her political career as a Democratic committeewoman in Willingboro Township, New Jersey 16th District, in 1965 and served until 1985. Ms. Kalik was President of the Willingboro Democratic Club in 1969 and 1971, and served as Vice chairwoman of the Burlington County Democratic Committee, 1970—1977.

Barbara Kalik was elected to the Willingboro Township Council beginning in 1971, and served two stints as Mayor of Willingboro Township in 1974 and 1977.

Ms. Kalik was a member of the Burlington County Community College Advisory Board, and a director of the Mount Laurel Regional Ballet Company. She also served as a former president of the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce, a past vice president of the Beth Torah Sisterhood, and director of the Burlington County United Way. She was also a member of the Committee on Enterprise and Entrepreneurship of the Democratic National Committee, a member of the South Jersey Democratic Legislative Coalition, and was the New Jersey representative to the Human Resources Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators.

In 1992, Ms. Kalik was appointed by the Governor to the New Jersey State Parole Board, where she served until 1996.

Personal life

A second-generation American, Barbara Kalik was born and raised in Bronx, New York with her sisters Jackie and Lori, and brother Ricky. Her parents, Al (Stretch) Bennett and Lydia Bennett were of Russian descent. In the Bronx, she graduated from William Howard Taft High School (New York City), and attended City College of New York. While married to Harvard Paul Kalik, she gave birth to four children, has eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. In 1968, Kalik founded Jolie Travel, Inc., a travel agency, in Willingboro Township, New Jersey, and operated the travel agency for nearly 30 years. When not traveling the world Ms. Kalik splits her time between Barnegat, New Jersey and Punta Gorda, Florida with her partner George.
