Bao is a computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It was released with Incredibles 2. The film is about an aging and lonely Chinese mother, suffering from empty nest syndrome, who receives an unexpected second chance at motherhood when her homemade bao comes to life.
Plot
A mother whose children have moved out to university finds a dumpling that comes alive. She raises the dumpling as a child, but as her "son" ages into a teenager and a young adult, he increasingly wants independence, while his "mother" is overprotective of him. When the dumpling introduces his new fiancee and announces his intentions to move out of his mother's house, his mother prevents this by swallowing him whole, after which she cries over what she has done. Later, a human version of her dumpling "son" enters her room and reconciles with his mother by offering her cha siu bao, which they eat together.
