John Houseman (September 22, 1902 - October 31, 1988) was a Romanian-born actor, best known for his Oscar-winning role as Professor Charles Kingsfield in the 1973 film The Paper Chase, a role which he reprised in the television series of the same name.

He was born as Jacques Haussmann in Bucharest.

Houseman was also a producer. For example, he co-produced Orson Welles's infamous 1938 radio broadcast The War of the Worlds. He and Welles cofounded the Mercury Theatre. He was the Executive Producer of CBS's landmark Seven Lively Arts series.

Taught acting at the Juilliard School of Fine Arts.

He died at the age of 86 from cancer.
