Xylology (zaɪˈlɒlədʒɪ) is the scientific study of wood. It is somewhat similar to Dendrochronology (ˌdɛndrəʊkrəˈnɒlədʒi.)

The word 'xylology' is a botanical term, along with being classified as a noun.

Xylology deals specifically with the gross and minute structure of wood.

Etymology

The word xylology is comprised of 'xylo-' (coming from the Greek word 'xylon', meaning 'wood'), and '-logy', meaning 'the study of' or 'the science of'.

Trivia

'Xylology' is often regarded as a rare term, as it is an extremely niche branch of an otherwise common dendrochronology.
