The word is derived from the Hindustani word saraf(alternately, Sunar or Swarnkar) is a Hindu caste in India referring to the community of people who work as goldsmiths. The community is primarily Hindu and they are Kshatriya by origin, and found usually in Northern India.(bullion merchant), which in turn, is ultimately derived from the Arabic ṣarrāf.
