The Hive, also known as HiveMC, is a Minecraft minigame server released on February 24, 2013. It is available for both the Java Edition and the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, with the Java Edition having closed on April 15, 2021. It is an official Minecraft partner server.

History

The Hive was launched in February 2013 by the merger of the two servers The Herobrine and Trouble in Mineville.

As of 2014, the server had more than 1 million unique monthly users.

For the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, The Hive was launched on October 16, 2018 with 3 games (Deathrun, Treasure Wars, and Hide & Seek).

As of 2021, The Hive was visited by over 6 million unique users.

On January 11, 2021, in an official post by the server team, it was announced that the Java Edition of The Hive will be closed on April 15, 2021 due to high server hosting costs.

Features

The Hive features several multiplayer game modes which have been continuously expanded and adapted over the course of time. Hub accessories such as costumes (server-exclusive skins), hub titles or avatars and game-specific items such as treasure designs for the Treasure Wars game mode can also be unlocked by completing quests or reaching higher levels in game modes, respectively. Sometimes, there are also time-limited tasks players can do, e. g. finding eggs in the server lobby, to unlock goods. In addition, certain content can also be purchased with Minecoins on the Minecraft Marketplace.

The Hive has also set up an official server on Discord.
