Hi BostonMensa. As you will have seen I created a number of articles about academics yesterday. I am still working on them and would appreciate it if you could allow work to continue, so that your concerns about notability are addressed in due course.
As to your proposed deletion of Kenneth Andrews (historian), you will see from the article that he is a fellow of the British Academy, which clearly satisfies Point 3 of WP:NACADEMIC, which in turn automatically establishes notability. Atchom (talk) 19:13, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Please desist from tagging articles for deletion while I am working on them and to remove content without cause. I will escalate this if you do this again. Atchom (talk) 21:04, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
I will not cease and desist if it appears that your articles are finished. I have no way of knowing if you or anyone else will do further edits. If you insist on creating one or two sentence articles and then go on to the next article, I suggest you put the in use tag in the article so people know you instead to come back quickly to improve the article. BostonMensa (talk) 21:12, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
When you started to plaster Max Förster with tags I was literally in the middle of editing the page and had made an edit TWO MINUTES before. Stop it. Atchom (talk) 21:17, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Non-diffusing subcategories
Hello. Thanks for your work on categorizing academics. But I'm reaching out because I've undone a series of edits in which you removed academics from academic categories without explanation. It is sourced, for example, that Kristin Goss is an American political scientist, and consequently belongs in Category:American political scientists. That page is also in Category:American women political scientists, but that is a non-diffusing subcategory, so the article should be in the parent category as well as in the subcategory. Am I missing a reason that pages like that one, as well as pages like Doris Kearns Goodwin or Elisabeth Gwinn, should not be in the category for their combination of nationality and profession? - Astrophobe (talk) 19:43, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
- For context, the reason that this type of categorization in particular is sensitive is that about a decade ago there was a severe problem with sorting people into diffusing subcategories based on sensitive characteristics like race, gender, and ethnicity, which led to widespread condemnation within and outside of Misplaced Pages. The idea was that this was a kind of ghettoizing (the implicit message of that categorization scheme was that men are classified as "physicists", for example, whereas women are only classified as "women physicists"). See for example this article. The guideline Misplaced Pages:Categorization/Ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality tries to address that issue. - Astrophobe (talk) 19:50, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
