RfC on Top Tier Status

Should I-league be called top tier league? M Kariyappa (talk) 11:07, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
A similar discussion earlier hasn't been able to resolve the issue. I request all interested editors to participate in the RfC, to take a decision by consensus. Specially, I request AA Manjappada and ArsenalFan700 to take part as on quite a few occasions the former has made edits suggesting ISL to be the sole top tier league in India while the latter has reverted. My view is that both the I-league and the ISL share the top tier status. However, I would like to have a larger discussion to resolve this status. M Kariyappa (talk) 11:15, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- No - Since according to ESPN, the I-league will no longer be the top-tier competition for Indian football. Their winners won't be getting a play-off place in the AFC Champions League. Idealigic (talk) 15:45, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

- No - my understanding that the top-level Indian league is the Indian Super League. GiantSnowman 11:39, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- No If this is referring to football within India, the current wording of "joint-premier football league in India" is fine. They are not the sole top tier for reasons mentioned by others above. If this is referring to football within the world, then it makes even less sense. < Atom (Anomalies) 05:10, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Relegation
Presently, relegated I-League teams are sent to State Leagues instead of I-League 2nd Division. I-League 2nd Division isn't a proper league and acts as a final round for the State Leagues. The last time a relegated I-League team played in I-League 2nd division in the coming season was back in 2015 (Dempo). Since then, lot of structural changes have happened and presently there is no such slot available for participation in I-League 2nd Division other than through state leagues, unless AIFF changes the format in the coming season. Therefore, the relegation tag should host state leagues for now. Footy2000 (talk) 17:05, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
