FRS Syltfähre is a ferry company operating in the North Sea, providing a connection between the German island of Sylt and the Danish island of Rømø. The company is a subsidiary of the Förde Reederei Seetouristik (FRS) group.
History
FRS Syltfähre was established in 1963 to create an alternative route to Sylt, which was traditionally accessible only by train via the Hindenburgdamm or by air. The service aimed to provide a convenient and reliable ferry connection for both passengers and vehicles.
Fleet
The company operates two ferries:
- SyltExpress: Launched in 2005, this modern ferry can accommodate up to 80 vehicles and 600 passengers. It is equipped with comfortable passenger lounges, a restaurant, and a panoramic deck.
- RömöExpress: Commissioned in 1993 and upgraded over the years, this ferry has similar capacities and amenities as the SyltExpress.
Route
The ferry route connects the harbor of Havneby on Rømø with the harbor of List on Sylt. The crossing takes approximately 40 minutes, offering passengers scenic views of the Wadden Sea, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Services
FRS Syltfähre provides several daily departures throughout the year.
