The name Burke or Bourke, earlier Burgh, is that of an Irish family of Norman origin who settled in Ireland - particularly north Munster and Connacht in the late 12th and 13th centuries. Their common ancestor is William de Burgh (c.1157-1206) whose ancestry is unknown.
