We are a growing community of Misplaced Pages editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:
Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

Wow, I was checking out that course At Yale just yesterday. It looks fantastic. Many thanks for your welcome! I have just downloaded the poster and will happily place it around campus. As far as a book to use as a textbook, I would suggest, for its encompassing nature, Queer Cultures, edited by Deborah Carlin and Jennifer DiGrazia (Prentice Hall, 2003). Or else, A Desired Past: A Short History of Same-Sex Love in America, by Leila J. Rupp (U of Chicago, 2002); Making Gay History: The Half Century Fight for Lesbian and Gay Equal Rights, by Eric Marcus (Harper, 2002). These could certainly serve as core texts for a LGBTQ course. Excellent, I shall try to track copies of those down! I'm interested in creating a Wikibook on LGBT history, but wanted a little precedent to work from. :) Most textbooks on Wikibooks, regrettably, are nowhere near the standard I would want to pitch to an educator. Ooh, if you put up the poster anywhere, can you take a medium range photo of it on a noticeboard (so you can see it's on a noticeboard, but also make out the "Misplaced Pages needs you" words)? Thanks for changing the text in the Alfred Douglas page. I hesitate to do so myself because I'm not a native English speaker. Obviously your idea of the inhabitants of Poet Land is a vast multitude of minor poets with a few major ones sticking out, whereas I think there's a mass of poets, a few major ones and a few minor poets like the one who was a fag of Byron, dined with him and 'inherited some of his master's poetical talent'. 'Minor poet' in the case of Douglas by the way was a correction a half year ago of 'obscure poet'. Soczyczi11:10, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Day books
A while ago you contributed a reference about Walt Whitman's relationships with street boys, from his day books. Can you steer me to a good source for these day books? On line? Has anyone analyzed them from a queer perspective, not to say a pederastic one? Regards, Haiduc02:47, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Most of the relevant portions of Whitman's daybooks have been extracted in Charley Shively (ed.), Calamus Lovers: Walt Whitman's Working-Class Camerados (San Francisco: Gay Sunshine Press, 1987); Charley Shively (ed.) Drum Beats: Walt Whitman's Civil War Boy Lovers (San Francisco: Gay Sunshine Press, 1989). For more scholarly purposes, you would want to quote from the authoritative edition: Walt Whitman, Daybooks and Notebooks, ed. by William White (New York: New York University Press, 1978). Project News
There is now the beginning of a list of core topics to possibly be included in the Misplaced Pages 1.0 release. Your suggestions are welcome; there may be many core LGBT topics still missing.
SatyrTN identified all the articles that were in subcategories of Category:LGBT but not yet tagged with the project's banner, about 1,400 articles. These have been completed, though SatyrBot will make periodic runs through the cats to find any new entries. Thanks Satyr!
The number of articles within our project's spectrum (6,667 currently) should now be relatively stable and only grow with article creation. However, if you find a category that should be included, please let SatyrTN know so it can be included in the bots runs.
Work is underway to improve the LGBT Portal. Please add any good quality (free) photos you come across on LGBT articles to the gallery here. Also if anyone would like to volunteer to help in maintaining the portal, please make yourselves known on the Portal's talkpage.

Cool. I, too, can't really work on it too much for a month or so because of exams (though I did read Valmouth and created the page some hours ago), so that's fine. Have you ever read anything by Ronald Firbank? I found it difficult to read, I had to look up words on every other page - well at least I added lots of quotes on Wiktionary! Hello there, are u still interested? Now it's the holiday I suppose you might have more free time to get to it. I've been working on lgbt-themed novels and it would be great if there was a batch of other people working towards that aim too. A taskforce dealing with LGBT publications has been proposed. If you are interested in getting involved, consider signing up at the projects' page.
Our core topics list is looking good. It's still a bit slim on LGBT history articles, non-American LGBT media, and important LGBT biographies. Do you have suggestions?
David Shankbone has done an amazing job taking photographs of LGBT celebrities. Thanks David! People interested in collaborating with him and setting up a photography taskforce should contact him or drop a note at the project's talkpage.
The LGBT Portal still needs a bit of love and attention :-). Again, any good quality (free) photos you come across on LGBT articles can be added to the gallery here. Volunteers to help out with the Portal are extremely welcome- make yourselves known on the Portal's talkpage. Updates to the current news items are helpful.
Deputy coordinator elections
WikiProject LGBT studies is looking for new Deputy Coordinators to help out with various essential tasks in organising the project. To nominate yourself or contribute to the discussion, please go to: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject LGBT studies/Coordinator/May 2007. The deadline for nominations is May 5 and the elections will last a week after that.
The elections will be pretty simple- everyone just endorses their favourite candidate(s). The three with the most votes at the end of the week are the new deputy coordinators, who will assist Dev920 in keeping the project running.

Monthly Challenge: June Stub Review! Take a moment and sift through the roughly 3,600 Stub-class LGBT articles. Are they still stubs? If not, make an assessment change. Even better, do you see anything you can add/edit to increase the rating? Let's see if the project can lower the number of stubs down below 3,000!

Monthly Challenge: Submit an article to our Jumpaclass competition! Languishing unloved, it is a great way to improving that article you always meant to improve but never got round to. Challenge someone else to go head to head and see who can improve their article most!

The portal is now looking very snazzy, well done to Fireplace for all his hard work.
The list of LGBT people to be sorted has now beed reduced by 20%. Please help us with it, all of us adding just one person a day would have a dramatic effect!
The Core Topics is now largely complete. The original aim of getting some kind of publication out of it is extremely long term - any short term uses we can make of it are welcome on the project talkpage.
A suggestion was made this month that we start our own wiki. Although the conclusion was that we felt we were a part of Misplaced Pages rather than a stand alone organisation, it seems there is an LGBT wiki already, at http://lgbt.wikia.com/Main_page . Members may be interested in getting involved there.
The Collaboration is now getting rather short on suggestions. Article nominations for August through December would be welcome on the talkpage.
There is now a list of Missing LGBT Topics. Help is needed to work out which topics can be made redirects or need to be created. Please contribute is you can.
