Rule has several meanings:
- A rule in mathematics is something which is always true.
- Law and morality may be seen as sets of rules (or norms). See also normative ethics and philosophy of law.
- A rule may also be used a straightedge and for measurement.
- A rule of thumb is a rule that not always applies, but that shows a tendency or probability.
- To rule a country is to control the country.
- In the field of artificial intelligence, a database of rules can be used to govern the behavior of a system.
