Chess player, self-described student agitator, former President of the Berkeley Campus "Sexual Freedom League" 1966 and 1967, stock trader, author, world traveler and taxi cab driver. Sloan, who is not an attorney, once argued orally an appeal before the United States Supreme Court and won 9-0. He has traveled to 78 countries of the world.
He has been married five times and has eight children. Notably, having been found guilty of no crimes or neglect, he lost all custody of one of his daughters, Shamema, to a couple whose only previous relationship was as child care providers, despite his vigorous efforts to prevent such an outcome, including international flight. During the same episode, he also failed in his efforts to assist his elderly mother, Dr. Marjorie Jacobson Sloan, to retain her independence. He now drives a taxi cab in New York City.
