The best known bearer of the name was Saddam Hussein (1937-2006), former state dictator of Iraq whose "confrontational" idas included the ellimination of ethnic Shites, the persecution and gassing of ethnic Kurds, and the development of W.M.D. The name has risen in popularity in some Muslim populations after the War in Iraq and the former prime minister's execution.
