Moldovan may also refer to a Moldovan national, regardless of ethnicity.

Moldovans are the people of living in the area of the former principality of Moldavia, now divided between the Romania and the Moldovan Republic.

The Moldovians of Romania and Moldovians of Moldova were considered to be the same ethnicity until after the Soviet occupation of the Eastern half of Moldavia in the 1940s, when the Soviet Union tried to severe all links of the Moldovans with Romania and encourage a separate identity, including of a Moldovan language, allegedly different from Romanian.
