Honor is an officer in the Royal Manticore Navy (RMN) and one of the RMN's best tactical officers. She is also one of the few people adopted by a treecat, a species native to the planet Sphinx (the fourth planet of Manticore-A), that are empaths.
She has a high-degree black belt in the martial art of Coup De Vitesse.
In the course of the story, she becomes a Duchess of the Star Kingdom of Manticore, a Grayson Steadholder and a high ranking officer in the Grayson Navy. Honor Harrington is regarded as a military genius and earns a nickname 'The Salamander'.
