Mythopoeic literature is literature that involves the making of myths. Notable mythopoeic authors are C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and George MacDonald.

The term Mythopoeia (virtual Greek μυθοποεια ) was coined by Tolkien as a title of a poem of his as a reaction to Lewis' statement that myths were "lies breathed through silver".

The Mythopoeic Society exists to promote mythopoeic literature, partly by way of the Mythopoeic Awards.
