It gets its name from its founder, Albert Hills, who decided to combine his and his wife's names to name the school. His wife was named Virginia. Alvirne is unique in having cows, chickens, goats, and a barn on campus although it claims to be 'Home of the Broncos'. Alvirne also boasts the Wilbur H. Palmer Vocational School with fully functional restaurant, bank, school store, daycare and building trades. Alvirne also hopes to have a fine arts center in the near future. Its most famous Alumnist is Philip G. Mousseau.
