- In response to the murder of his general Butheric, Theodosius I orders a massacre of the inhabitants of Thessalonica. Appalled by the brutality of this action, Ambrose excommunicates him.
- Theodosius brings an obelisk from Egypt to the Hippodrome of Constantinople.
