reddit is a web site that seeks to provide a list of what is new and interesting online. The site works by allowing any user to submit a link, which is then subject to voting by other users. Each user can add or subtract one point from the link's score, which is used in combination with the link's age to calculate its position on the front page. Each user's voting history is used to create a page of recommended links for that user.
Reddit received its initial funding from Y Combinator and was founded by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian. The team expanded to include Christopher Slowe in January of 2006. Aaron Swartz was added to the team in late February as part of the comapny's collaboration with Swartz's Infogami .
The reddit mascot is from the future, and it was created from the imagination of cofounder Alexis Ohanian.
Subreddits
Reddit has expanded to include several subreddits to help separate content. These include:
Infogami integration
In February 2006 reddit expanded to include Infogami in their database. The two websites share databases and users can use an account at either site to post.
