Professor Alfons Hoffmann (born March 12, 1895 - December 30, 1963) was a Polish engineer born in Graudenz, Germany (today Grudziądz in Poland).
After graduating, 1911–1913 and 1918–1919, Prof. Hoffman worked in the position of a young engineer in the electric machine laboratory and in the construction department for the Garbe Lahmeyer Co. in Aachen (Westphalia).
During the Stalinism era, Hoffmann was recalled from the position enabling him to influence the development of Polish power engineering industry. He became a Technical University in Gdansk a instructor in the Engineering Department working under Prof. K. Kopecki.
In 1922 Hoffmann worked out the first plan for the electrification of Pomerania province.
Alfons Hoffmann died on December 30, 1963 and was buried in the Gdansk-Wrzeszcz cemetery.
His whole life was the testimony of his great capabilities and creativity. He was the engineer, designer, constructor, manager, singer, choir conductor, ethnographer, sport fan, and art expert, teacher, creator of associations, active APEE member, the friend of the young, the passionate servant of his country. Hoffmann had various talents, great charisma, inexhaustible energy, organization skills, and vision for the future. He did not waste any of his talents, opposite; he used every one of them for “Pro publico bono”.

In 1992, Prof. A. Hoffman's Medal was created by the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers as the Patron of all Polish Power Engineering (APEE). Up from this time, distinguished persons receive The Hoffmann's Medal.
