Big Brother 13 will be the upcoming thirteenth season of the American reality television series Big Brother that will premiere on July 7, 2011 on the CBS television network. The show is produced by Endemol USA and Fly On The Wall Entertainment. The thirteenth season was confirmed on the same day as the finale of Big Brother 12 in a press release issued from CBS.

Pre-season

As announced by CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, Big Brother 13 will be the first season of the United States series to be broadcast in high-definition television, becoming the last CBS series (scripted or unscripted) to do so. While most other prime-time television shows have transitioned to high definition, including other reality television shows such as Survivor and The Amazing Race, previous seasons of Big Brother have used standard-definition television due to the cost and fragility of high-definition recording equipment. International versions of Big Brother, including the original Netherlands and the defunct Brtitsh seasons, have already transitioned to high-definition.

Casting for Big Brother 13 began in mid-April. Applications and video tape submissions did not have a set deadline. Applicants chosen to be a finalist will go to Los Angeles, CA from which applicants will be narrowed down to a pool of forty finalists. Casting calls will be held around the United States on a later date.
