Their kingdom, which was Gododdin, was acquired by Bernicia at the end of the 7th century. Prior to the Battle of Catraeth in the late 7th century, the Votadini (known later as 'Gododdin') may have inhabited the region now known as Lothian and a substantial area to the south-east of that for as long as 1,000 years before the arrival of the Romans.
