She was a young teen girl. Jewish. Her family went into hiding in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation and while there she wrote her diary.
After the family was rousted from their hiding place Meip Gees (sp?) found the dairy and saved it.
Only Anne's father Otto made it out of the concentration camps alive. Meip gave him the diary and he edited it for publication.
More recent editions compare her original entries with her father's edited versions.
The house where Anne and family hid is now a museum. It is at Prinsengracht 263
in the city center, within walking distance of the main train station, the palace and the Dam.
