Musical artist

Steven James Hewitt (born 22 March 1971) is the singer and guitarist in Love Amongst Ruin, having previously been the drummer for Placebo between mid-1996 and October 2007.

Personal life

Steve was born in Northwich, Cheshire, England and attended Weaverham High School. He has a daughter named Emily.

Career

Prior to joining Placebo, Hewitt was a member of various bands such as Electric Crayons, K-Klass, The Mystic Deckchairs, The Boo Radleys and Breed. He also worked as a session musician. Like previous drummer, Schultzberg, he also plays drums left-handed.

He met band member Brian Molko through his then-girlfriend. Although he appeared on some early demo tapes for Placebo, he wasn't able to join the band at first due to prior commitments to Breed. Placebo then earned their record deal with replacement drummer Robert Schultzberg. Later, as Breed broke up, Schultzberg was departing from Placebo so Hewitt accepted the invitation to join Placebo permanently.

On 1 October 2007, it was announced via the official Placebo website that Steve Hewitt had parted company with Placebo due to personal and musical differences.

His new band is called Love Amongst Ruin and the band's debut album of the same name was released on 13 September 2010, preceded by the single So Sad (Fade), released 30 August 2010.

As announced in August 2012, Hewitt is the new drummer for Six by Seven.
