Hugo Benedict Schwyzer (born May 22, 1967) is an American gender studies professor at Pasadena City College, writer, author and blogger, who has written for such publications as Salon.com, Jezebel and The Atlantic.

Schwyzer became the focus of media attention after having himself circumcised at age 37 in 2005.

A self-described male feminist, Schwyzer also became the subject of controversy when he admitted to sleeping with his female students, having sex with men and women, and attempting to kill himself and his ex-girlfriend while under the influence of narcotics in 1998.

Schwyzer co-authored Beauty, Disrupted: A Memoir, an autobiography of supermodel Carré Otis that was published in October 2011 by HarperCollins.

Schwyzer is also known for teaching courses in pornography, including bringing adult film star James Deen to speak to his students.

On July 30, 2013, Schwyzer announced on his official website he was quitting the Internet, writing that he needed a hiatus to prioritize his mental health and relationship with his wife and children. In an interview with New York Magazine he cited reasons for his mental and martial breakdown being internet criticism, extramarital affairs, and just getting out of the hospital after checking into a psychiatric ward for a week when he became a danger to himself.

Schwyzer has also been a contributor to The Good Men Project.

Schwyzer informed LA Weekly that he attempted suicide on August 1, 2013. Schwyzer was visiting his mother in the Monterey area, where he was raised. He was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after taking a bottle of Klonopin. Schwyzer reported that he was physically fine but the social media fallout from a sexting relationship with an adult actress and affairs with other women hurt his marriage and put him in a deep depression.
