One born in these castes is assumed to be born another time at the time of Upanayanam, when he is initiated into the ultimate pursuit of life Brahmopadesam (Preaching/Advising in the matter of the nature of Brahman - the ultimate reality). Dwija, is the second stage in the transition of a human being from a Prakrutha Purusha into a Samskrutha Purusha. The other two stages being Vipra and Brahmana.
