ISIL attacks and war crimes
Kobanê Canton has been attacked by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists for several months. In September 2014, ISIL terrorists occupied much of the Kobanê Canton, seizing more than 100 Kurdish villages. As a consequence of ISIL occupation, about 130,000 Kurdish refugees from the Kobanê Canton fled into Turkey. In seized villages, ISIL terrorists committed massacres and kidnapped women. ISIL terrorists, however, were not able to occupy entire Kobanê Canton, as Kurdish forces managed to defend the town of Kobanê and several nearby settlements. Fighting continues.
