The Island of Doctor Moron

Hi Gaff. Thanks you for your attention to my entry on the above. This is my first attempt at entering an article although I am a keen user of Wiki. A few points: 1. Yes there is an apparent COI – I am the creator of the musical. 2. However – I have attempted to provide only factual information – names, dates, places etc. 3. My motivation is simply to provide an archive for future reference by others. 4. I do not need the self-promotion aspect as we have already attracted enormous positive attention from the industry people who count. Our aim has always been to take this show to another level and we are well on the way to achieving this. 5. As to the reviews you mentioned: Unfortunately, I was on a steep learning curve in how I should deal with the media. I was naive in allowing them into our rehearsals; I believed they were there merely to initially look and that reviews would happen at a later date based on actual shows. This was not the case: both reviews were based on early tech rehearsals where we were dealing with some major issues. Neither reviewer saw the actual show in full-scale performance before paying audiences. Most significantly, neither saw the packed houses (we sat 250 people) toward the end of our season when word-of-mouth ‘reviews’ drew audiences in and many back for 2 to 7 viewings of the show. The show underwent significant script and blocking revisions in the period between the visits by those two reviewers and the actual end of season. Unlike other musicals that have had to actually close down for major script revisions (Strictly Ballroom, An Officer and a Gentleman etc), we were able to accommodate refinements during our season. One of the reviews (not the SMH) is by a person who should not receive any credibility from Wiki – he is a self-appointed theatre blogger whose very demeanour caused me serious concern from the moment he attended our theatre. He will attempt to attach himself to this article for self-promotion only. Again, we received very strong unsolicited reviews from people such as Giles Hardy both as a feature article in Time Out Sydney - November and on ABC Radio National (Tony Delroy) and by Alan Jones on 2GB. Overall the press, TV and media coverage was quite extensive and overwhelmingly positive. 6. Our re-opening of the Palace Academy Twin Cinema building is also historically significant. A search of the records will reveal that it was an iconic cinema in Sydney and prior to that, the building was one of the two great theatres in Sydney in the early twentieth century. I renamed the theatre “The New Olympia” in deference to its name in 1919. If I can be of any further assistance, please contact me. Thank you once again for your interest and attention. Hi User:Chris Dockrill! Thank you for the contribution. This is a community collaborative project and it is not always clear what the intentions are of people contributing. Your comments and contributions are appreciated. I've enjoyed learning about your project. I'm going to copy/paste your comments to the discussion on the article talk page, then leave a note at the discussion about the article deletion hereMisplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/The Island of Doctor Moron.Gaff (talk) 23:00, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
I could understand your rationale for AfD but equally I am happy to see that the article is kept. It needs further fixing but I won't be able to do so. As for DYK, I'd like to see a positive review (or at least a non-negative one) in the article to provide some counter to the negative ones I've read. Currently the most quotable material is from the David Allen (DivaKnowsBest) review – especially some of it which is not in the article.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:33, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

re: Tepperman's

Hi Gaff. I saw your note re: my edits to Teppermans (https://en.wikipedia.org/Tepperman%27s). I'm new to the process of Wiki editing, so although its my goal to use correct protocol my newness has me stumbling around a bit. Please let me know how I should proceed. Thank you! Ntepperman (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:44, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

* @Ntepperman: Thank you for your interest in building an encyclopedia which is free of bias and self-promotion. Since you have an obvious conflict of interest, being a member of the family, it might be best to just step back and watch the process unfold on this article. Please see WP:COI for details on that topic. As for my reasons for nominating the page, I cannot find reliable sources independent of the topic, to satisfy WP:GNG (general notability guidelines). If you have such references, you could either add them to the article, the article talk page, or the discussion at Articles for Deletion (which it appears you have found). --Gaff (talk) 20:48, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Gaff - thanks for the reply. I certainly agree that there's reasonably the potential for a conflict of interest, since I am a family member. Since my goal is to create a Wiki entry for our business that was accurate and which follows Wiki protocol, I hope that I will be able to demonstrate appropriate objectivity and would appreciate your continuing feedback. To that point, thank you for linking to the GNG & COI pieces - I will read them shortly. As well, I will provide all possible references. Also, in trying to upload a logo I've learned that I lack that ability at the moment. The wizard suggested I ask someone for help. Are you able to provide that kind of assistance? If so, here's a URL for you: http://blog.teppermans.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Teppermans-Logo-Process-transparent.png Thanks again.Ntepperman (talk) 21:02, 22 January 2015 (UTC) I forgot to ask you - I must have done something to mess up the syntax for the "Infobox company" section, but I can't figure out what I did wrong. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.Ntepperman (talk) 21:08, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure what went wrong with the infobox. Maybe revert it to the old one? I tried to fix it but no luck. As for the logo, you can probably upload it under Fair Use as a logo, unless you want to release the copyright. Gaff (talk) 21:17, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
There is info here about uoploading logos. Misplaced Pages:Logos. --Gaff (talk) 21:18, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

I just added a bunch of references. Many of them are from news sites (newspapers & magazines), and there are a couple of blogs & industry sites as well. Hopefully that will help.Ntepperman (talk) 22:01, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Looks good. I don't think it will get deleted. But it will need some editing, so I will see if the AfD can close early and try to get some cleanup done. Gaff (talk) 22:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Ok. I've already edited out some of the "promotional" language and Dragnet's Joe Friday's "Just the facts, ma'am" is my motto. The "History" section needs further editing - I'm hoping to pull references directly from some of the cited news sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ntepperman (talkcontribs) 23:00, 22 January 2015 (UTC) Checking back in. I've been down with the flu for the last couple of days so have only just now had a chance to get back to this. I've added a more formalized timeline to the history as well as additional citations, references & links. I've also gone through again to filter out the subjectivity.
Could you please take a look at this when you have a chance and let me know what you think, i.e., if you have further edits/ changes to recommend, or if you feel this is an adequate improvement, etc.
One note: I've got a crazy week this week, and then will be off on vacation for a couple of weeks. If you do have further edits that need to be made, I probably won't be able to get to them until the end of February. I hope that won't create any problems, but let me know. Thanks again.Ntepperman (talk) 20:43, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Your best hope is to bring your concerns to the discussion at the articles for deletion page, which you have already been to before. I'm not an administrator and cannot keep the article from getting deleted. I'm also not able to work on it with you due to other obligations. Good luck! Gaff (talk) 22:06, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

DYK nomination of David Tannenberg

Hello! Your submission of David Tannenberg at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 21:01, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Strange deletion request

I saw that you tagged User:Letsgetbanned for speedy deletion under speedy deletion criterion G5, as a page created by a blocked editor in violation of their block. As always in that situation, I checked to see who created the page, so that I could see whether they really were evading a block at the time of creation. Interestingly, I saw that the page was created on 17 May 2007 by‎ Gaff. Are you telling us that you were evading a block at the time? Should I block you indefintiely for block evasion ? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 18:25, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

... actually, I have deleted the page under speedy deletion criterion G7 instead. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 18:26, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Well @JamesBWatson:, (...if that is in fact your real name...), an indefinite block would seem a bit harsh. However, a temporary block might help snap this compulsive need I am finding to revert vandalism & spam, get the vandals and spammers blocked, and do general housekeeping around here while waiting for a Featured Article candidate to move forward. Maybe time for me to take a break! Gaff (talk) 18:36, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Barnstar!

The Graphic Designer's Barnstar
Thanks for your assistance with all of the map making, especially for the Toxostoma birds (as well as bringing attention to the Le Conte's thrasher DYK). I'm pretty sure I'll need some more maps for the rest of them, so this can be thought of as a future reward too! LeftAire (talk) 17:11, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
