Revision as of 08:56, 19 September 2004 by Ensrifraff (talk | contribs) (Started the page)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Tessie is the title of a Broadway song, as well as another song about how the siniging of Tessie helped the Boston Red Sox win the first World Series in 1903. It was sung by the Royal Rooters, a collection of loyal fans led by local bar owner "Nuff Ced" McGreevey (so called because when he got fed up with arguments over the Red Sox and the Boston Braves, he would pound his hand on the bar and declare "Nuff Said!"). The second Tessie has become the theme song of the Red Sox and tells the story of how the Royal Rooters stormed the park one time when they found the game was already sold out.
Sadly the Rooters disbanded in 1918, and the Red Sox have never won a World Series since, having once been the major dynasty of baseball.
The chorus of the second Tessie goes:
Italic textTessie, Nuff Ced McGreevey Shouted Italic textWe're not here to mess around Italic textBoston you know we love you madly Italic textHear the crowd roar to your sound Italic textDon't blame us if we ever doubt you Italic textYou know we couldn't live without you Italic textTessie you are the only only only
In 2004, the Boston area rock group Dropkick Murphys recorded a cover of Tessie, released on an album of the same name. It is the express intent of the Murphys to bring back the spirit of the Rooters and put the Red Sox back on top.
