Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Misplaced Pages:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Misplaced Pages talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

ELA page rename

Current discussion at Talk:English Lacrosse Association about moving the page from the current title to Lacrosse in England or Lacrosse in the United Kingdom. Overall, I think the question raised here could be raised of all of the WP:Lax international pages. Should articles be organized as "Lacrosse in ...." or by international governing bodies? Opinions wanted. Thanks, Mitico (talk) 11:39, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

The switch for MLL Team (Infobox) templates

Resolved

User:Rw mcfarland has apparently edited all of the MLL teams to switch from the former {{MLL Team Infobox}} template to his or her newer {{MLL Team}} template via several changes made back in late August, 2008. This project page still recommends the former not the latter. You active WP:LAX project members may want to decide which infobox you prefer and make some adjustments (either edit this project page to agree with mcfarland (and perhaps also delete the older obsolete template), or edit all the teams' articles to switch back to the older template (and request the deletion of the newer template)). I recently edited the newer MLL Team template to add back in the |website= parameter that had been omitted from it. The omission had left the website url on all team pages undisplayed (until just recently). I hope that helps you out. 67.86.75.57 (talk) 23:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I have re-written {{MLL Team Infobox}} using {{infobox}}. All the parameters are exactly the same as {{MLL Team}} and I made {{MLL Team}} a redirect to {{MLL Team Infobox}} so everything is done and taken care of. --Yarnalgo talk to me 06:12, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Game logs on season pages

This was mentioned a couple of months ago: on the project talk page and I'm finally getting around to making the change. I've put a sample log in my sandbox for the 2005 Toronto Rock. It is more explicit with the score (highest score is always listed first, but there's a "W" or "L", only the opponent is listed (with '@' if it's an away game), and the goalie is no longer listed. Let me know what you think. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 14:47, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Looks great. When comparing side by side, your sandbox version looks a lot cleaner and easier to read. As stated by you & JC in the initial discussion, the GK decision section doesn't seem necessary. Looking at the NHL logs, I think they are way to busy. Only thing I would consider in the future is adding a "Recap" or reference column for each game. For now, the general pointstreak reference is fine. -Mitico (talk) 15:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I added a boxscore column with links to each game, but I'm not sure I like it. Same place. Comments or suggestions? --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 15:54, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I see you updated the Game logs. They look good. Figured I would just come back and comment. I believe my suggestion for a reference column with boxscore was flawed. Looking at other leagues game-logs - they have this column. Adding this column I thought would increase the verifiability of the log - as it does for others leagues. However, the NLL logs have a general reference in the header that links to the same information. My suggestion would have only added to the appearance of verifiability, not actual increase it. So I think the changes are right on. Thanks. Mitico (talk) 20:28, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Excellent job on the Game Logs. I meant to follow through with it when I brought up the initial conversion but my time has been few and far between lately. Again, great work!! Jc121383 (talk) 14:30, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of {{Pro lacrosse team}}

{{Pro lacrosse team}} has been nominated for deletion because it is redundant to {{MLL Team Infobox}} and {{NLL Team Infobox}} and is unused. Discussion is here. --Yarnalgo talk to me 19:07, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Infobox template for NCAA teams

Currently, there's no infobox template really suited for college lacrosse teams (like there is for basketball and football). At present, the few college team articles use a template for association football (soccer), which isn't ideal since it uses British English words and links to football-specific things. I don't have the technical knowledge of template syntax to do it myself at the moment. Is there anyone with the know-how who would be interested in making an infobox template specifically for college lacrosse teams? Strikehold (talk) 03:51, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Sure I'll make it. Give me a little bit (might actually be tomorrow). --Yarnalgo talk to me 06:28, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Great! The college soccer infobox template is actually not too bad for our purposes, and with a few tweaks it could be used as a starting point for a lax-specific template. Maybe add two more NCAA tournament fields for NCAA quarterfinals and semifinals, and a non-tournament championship field for years predating the NCAA tournament (Wingate Trophy, etc.). Also, if anyone knows how to do it, if there's a way to change the uniform to get rid of the socks and maybe add a helmet/gloves it'd be perfectly suited for lacrosse teams. Strikehold (talk) 22:15, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Done as a functional infobox but more can be done: {{Infobox College Lacrosse Team}}. I'm pretty sure it uses most of the same parameters as the soccer one but make sure and check when you are switching. Also, I've only seen the uniform thing on the soccer templates and I don't think it really works well for lacrosse. --Yarnalgo talk to me 03:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

That was quick, looks good. Nice work. Any thoughts on possibly adding fields for pre-NCAA tourney championships and NCAA quarter/semifinals (such as in the basketball one)? Strikehold (talk) 16:00, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Done. For the pre-NCAA, I only added the Wingate Trophy. Was there a different award/tournament? If there is I can change it to the generic "pre-NCAA" type thing the basketball one has. --Yarnalgo talk to me 22:50, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
The USILA recognizes pre-Wingate championships (I think as early as 1881), so I went ahead and tweaked it to a generic "pre-NCAA champions". Strikehold (talk) 23:50, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good. --Yarnalgo talk to me 23:58, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

NCAA Results error

I saw that Syracuse is listed as the champion for the year in 1990. Althought they defeeated Loyola in the finals, the title was taken away by the NCAA for rule violations (to be euphemistic). I believe that the actual champion that year was Loyola, the runner-up. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/NCAA_Men%27s_Lacrosse_Championship for verification from NCAA. Hkerfoot (talk) 22:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC)HK

Not according to the NCAA. If you find a valid reference, I would be interested. Mitico (talk) 23:15, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Going further, you can write {{current sport|event=lacrosse-related event|sport=lacrosse}} which will display as:

All the same applies to {{future sport}}. --Yarnalgo talk to me 19:31, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Lacrosse/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Lacrosse/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:42, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Notification regarding Misplaced Pages-Books

Hadronic Matter
An overview
An example of a book cover, taken from Book:Hadronic Matter

As detailed in last week's Signpost, WikiProject Misplaced Pages books is undertaking a cleanup all Misplaced Pages books. Particularly, the {{saved book}} template has been updated to allow editors to specify the default covers of the books. Title, subtitle, cover-image, and cover-color can all be specified, and an HTML preview of the cover will be generated and shown on the book's page (an example of such a cover is found on the right). Ideally, all books in Category:Book-Class lacrosse articles should have covers.

If you need help with the {{saved book}} template, or have any questions about books in general, see Help:Books, Misplaced Pages:Books, and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Misplaced Pages-Books, or ask me on my talk page. Also feel free to join WikiProject Misplaced Pages-Books, as we need all the help we can get.

Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Lacrosse/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 48 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:19, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

List of college men's lacrosse coaches by career wins

I saw there were similar articles created recently for other college sports (football, hockey, and basketball), and decided to make one of these for lacrosse head coaches. The arbitrary cut-off that I used was 250 wins.

I used the 2009 NCAA record book and added the past seasons results for active coaches, but did notice that the NCAA record book does not count Dick Edell's record at the University of Baltimore (1973–1975), which would put him at either 237 or 282 wins, depending on whether you count those or not. To my knowledge, UBalt was Division II at the time, so those wins should count towards his all-time NCAA record. Oddly, the NCAA record book counted Richie Meade's wins/losses at UBalt from 1979 to 1982, so I don't know if there was an oversight with Edell or whether there were NCAA violations or something of which I am not aware (and sort of doubt) during his tenure there. Anyone have anything on this? Strikehold (talk) 01:59, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

re: Dick Edell

  • I see nothing 'suspicious' in U B's schedule for that period. U B's 1973 schedule is tough with opponents Ohio Wesleyan, Roanoke, Maryland (1973 DI champ), Hofstra (#6 seed DI), Washington Shoremen (USILA finalist), Towson, UMBC & Washington & Lee (#4 seed DI). Baltimore reached the USILA (non-Division I year-end tournament) quarterfinals against Washington beating Roanoke to get there. Further research -- "5-12-75 Salisbury Times - Ohio Wesleyan and Morgan State, ranked 10th and llth in last week's USILA College Division poll were included in the (tournament) field over the teams which ranked seventh, eighth and ninth — Roanoke, Adelphi and Baltimore U". UB's schedule looks legitimate, nothing so far on any violations. I'd suggest including Baltimore's wins/losses as part of Edell's overall coaching record. Thanks ! --10stone5 (talk) 01:11, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Thanks for checking into that. Edell's UB record is included in the list and on his article. I had the feeling that the NCAA figure was wrong, but it is bizarre that they just didn't count the UB games for Edell, while they did for I think Richie Meade. Strikehold (talk) 21:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I have caught what appear to be a few more errors in the NCAA Record Book: It puts Richie Meade as UBalt head coach in 1979 (while the UBalt yearbook and Meade's Navy bio say he arrived in 1980), and it may also have incorrect number of wins for Jim (Ace) Adams (284 vice 286 or 287)... I wonder if wins/losses against club teams may be partly to blame for the differing numbers though? Strikehold (talk) 04:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
  • F*** the NCAA record book. I had a great link for this, might have come from some Hopkins pre-game notes. I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile, I like what you've developed - and will be glad to verify as much as possible, and of course will link to this page. Thanks ! --10stone5 (talk) 17:09, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Lacrosse articles have been selected for the Misplaced Pages 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Misplaced Pages articles selected by the Misplaced Pages 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Lacrosse articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Misplaced Pages talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Misplaced Pages talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Misplaced Pages for Schools to extend the reach of Misplaced Pages worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Removing Player Nationality Flags

I have been working on updating some NLL pages for the upcoming season and have noticed that most teams which have rosters on their page are horribly out of date (we're talking years behind). I believe a major reason for this is that next to each player's name is their nationality. This makes it way too hard to update because often times it is EXTREMELY difficult to find where a lesser known player was born. As such, I am starting to remove these flags from the roster section of each team's page. I hope that nobody here disagrees with this as it really isn't pertinent information anyway, and it will make it a lot easier to keep this information up to date! --Xander756 (talk) 21:30, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation needed: Eamon McEneaney and Eamon McAnaney

There is a page for McEneaney, highly regarded Cornell attackman who played in the mid-late 1970s and who died in the Towers on 9/11. There is also a Notre Dame defenseman McAnaney who played in the late 80s, early 90s is living and working as a lacrosse announcer for ESPN online sports broadcasts.

I do not know how to edit disambiguation links, and I don't know enough about the announcer McAnaney to know whether he would merit a page under the living persons standards for lacrosse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.228.39 (talk) 21:17, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to the Lacrosse WikiProject. We are a group dedicated to improving Misplaced Pages's coverage of the sport of lacrosse.

(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Misplaced Pages:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).

Goals

The goal of this project is to organize the efforts of those working on articles about and concerning the sport of lacrosse, including all four distinct versions of the sport: men's field lacrosse, box lacrosse (or indoor lacrosse), women's lacrosse, and intercrosse or soft-stick lacrosse. Each has its own article with a link from the main lacrosse article.

Leagues

All professional or highest level of play lacrosse leagues should have articles describing the teams, former teams, champions and past champions, awards, etc.

List of leagues:

Teams

All team pages need improvement. They should have several prose sections, including history, championship descriptions, notable years, and notable players. Perhaps arena info or broadcasting. Tables should include championships, yearly records, roster of players, head coaches, maybe draft picks. Example: Philadelphia Wings (1987–2014). Or any NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL team page.

WPLL team pages are stubs. Also, almost all WLA and MSL teams are stubs with very few citations. Finally, PLL team pages are mostly statistics, with very little prose content. An external link to the PLL's stat page would suffice for the individual stats table.

Players

  • {{Infobox lacrosse player}} should be used on all player pages.
  • Player pages should include the year(s) that the player has played, which team(s) he/she played for (in as many leagues as possible), and should include stats (at least for NLL, PLL and MLL) if possible.
  • Any participation in international lacrosse should be mentioned as well.

Other

Create and improve pages on tournaments and championships - Mann Cup, Minto Cup, NCAA, Heritage Cup, World Lacrosse championships, other international tournaments, etc.

Expand international lacrosse articles.

Further information: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Lacrosse/Assessment

The assessment system allows the WikiProject to monitor the quality of articles in its subject areas, and to prioritize work on these articles. The class and importance should be filled in on the parameters of the {{WikiProject Lacrosse}} template on the article's talk page.

These guidelines can help to determine what class should be assigned to an article.

group, I noticed that it was tough to find info on the players. I'm guessing a player playing at the World's should be notable. I'll look to add a squad list to the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship. Any templates for the National teams? --Coppercanuck (talk) 21:50, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Dear lacrosse experts: Is this a notable lacrosse team? Should we be looking for reliable sources, or should the page be deleted as a stale draft? —Anne Delong (talk) 15:06, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, this is a notable lacrosse club... it is professional, features multiple National Lacrosse League alumni, and is a team in the second strongest pro box lacrosse league in the world. DMighton (talk) 02:29, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, DMighton. I have delayed the deletion of the draft for six months to give time to find some references. —Anne Delong (talk) 02:41, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Misplaced Pages struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

~ Additions to the "Box Lacrosse (Goalie)" page? ~

I greatly appreciate everyone who participated in the making of the Box Lacrosse Goalie page. It was much needed, as the sport is growing quite rapidly

However, I would like to see more recent pictures of goaltenders, at a higher level, and sporting more modern gear. There are too many pictures that are nice enough, yet show the goaltender sporting small/unconventional/outdated gear; and I am afraid that is not as appealing to readers.

I would love for a recent photo of a goaltender to be added, to give the readers a fresher and more accurate view of the position. A couple pictures of any current box goaltender (preferably Matt Vinc, Evan Kirk, Tyler Carlson, etc.) playing in a recent NLL game, properly dressed in modern and appropriate gear, would be absolutely perfect.

Also, on a lesser note, a small section on the goalie gloves would be nice. A picture of the new Under Armour goalie gloves that are given to each NLL goaltender would work perfectly.

Simply search up "NLL goaltenders" (or any of the names I listed two lines above) on Google Images, and you will find more than enough options to add.

If these two things are accomplished, I confidently believe that more readers will be attracted to the page, and will return more than one time for reference in the future.

Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. A great picture is worth a million.

Any takers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.171.219.233 (talk) 03:19, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Good point the images that are currently on the Goaltender (box lacrosse) page are quite outdated and don't include any notable goalies. For example the wooden sticks and youth players. I will try to get some images soon for the page and ask other box lacrosse fans if they can as well.

Happy Editing! Da Drewster (talk) 06:18, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

That is ridiculous. Yes, it could use a pic of an NLL goalie... but wooden sticks are still a high percentage of what goalies use in the OLA (therefore still modern).... whether it is MSL, Sr. B, Jr. A, B, or C... and the OLA is the hotbed of the sport. Most of the goalies are from last year and are wearing legally-sized Boddam, which is the benchmark for the sport. Also, older equipment has a place on the article as a reference point for the advancement of the sport's technology. I would also like to point out the "Stick and Gloves" section to the anon, we could add a pic of a glove there... want to provide a "free" image of one? Also, does anyone have a "free-use" image of an NLL goalie? DMighton (talk) 09:31, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Good point DMighton wooden sticks are still quite popular in box lacrosse leagues today. I was thinking maybe non-wooden sticks would be more appealing to the viewers but now that I think about it that isn't very logical. Sorry for the inconvenience. Da Drewster (talk) 19:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
I have added Tye Belanger of the Colorado Mammoth as the lead image of the article. It was taken Summer of 2014, in the OLA's Senior B League. Most NLL players usually spend their summers in the OLA or BC Sr. Leagues. He is wearing regulation gear. I would like to add that there is only one image of youth lacrosse in the article. There is one of Senior, 2 of Junior B, one youth photo (Midget A), and one just generic goalie photo... the first four of these are all in modern and legal gear.
I can get some pics of a Warrior Wall stick to go with the wooden one... maybe even some gloves... can't guarantee what brand they are though, only NLL goalies get free gear from sponsors usually. DMighton (talk) 19:44, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
If you can you get an image of gloves you should definitely do that. Also nice shot of Tye Belanger great picture. Da Drewster (talk) 22:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
I'll ask one of the Windsor Clippers goalies if they'll let me shoot their gloves. Thanks, that is Tye with the Sarnia Beavers... the team has relocated to Wallaceburg (Thrashers)... I am hoping to get some shots of him with them this weekend... it is about a 90 minute drive for me. DMighton (talk) 04:15, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
That would be nice dude. Also checked out your Facebook page awesome pictures! You should do that for a living. Da Drewster (talk) 20:05, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks... I am working at learning the craft... it is a fun hobby at this point... but I am improving every game. DMighton (talk) 21:41, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
I would love to do that as a hobby but I just don't have the time to do it. Da Drewster (talk) 08:23, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
