Historical, Mythological, or Modern Invention?
It's not at all clear from reading the stub and following the outgoing links whether this is an actual, or believed to be actual, ancient text, a legendary text mentioned in ancient literature, or an invention attributed to Early Modern mystics. With all due to respect to those who practice contemporary religions based on Early Modern mysticism, this shouldn't be too difficult to clarify, and I don't think that willful ambiguation is helpful to anyone.71.67.121.153 (talk) 02:51, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
This should clarify and should be included:

No, that link is not helpful at all. 71.86.29.218 (talk) 19:43, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's a nonsense link. It's a real Egyptian text, see - but gets confused with Crowley's The Book of Thoth (Crowley). Dougweller (talk) 20:56, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
More sources for this
See The Ancient Egyptian Book of Thoth: Text and The Egyptian Hermes: A Historical Approach to the Late Pagan Mind for two useful sources to expand the article. Dougweller (talk) 11:49, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Urgh. When I rewrote this article, I thought the only genuinely Egyptian Book of Thoth was the fictional one at the center of the Setna story. I didn't realize how many real texts are, or can be, called by that title. I'll try to handle this when I have time. A. Parrot (talk) 18:05, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. I ran away from that when I saw it, too many other articles to work on! Dougweller (talk) 19:08, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
