Play Records is an independantly owned Canadian record label operating in Toronto, Canada. Founded by singer and former Care Bears voice actress Melleny Melody in 1996 and DJ Spydabrown , the label represents a diverse range of musical talent with releases from disco, electro house, drum and bass, to techno, jazz and disco house among others.
Other arms of the company include Play Deep Studios, a recording studio in the UK, Play Digital, for digital music and Play Records Publishing, a publishing commpany which provides licensing materials for commercial, film and television productions, including licensing deals for compilations.
History
In 2005, Melleefresh discovered Joel Zimmerman a.k.a. deadmau5 and have collaborated on a number of releases between 2005 and 2009 under the Play Records duo Freshmau5, including the 2008 Juno nominated song 'After Hours' which was beaten the song "All U Ever Want" by deadmau5 and Billy Newton-Davis, another Play Records release that year.
