The Etard's Reaction is a commonly used chemical reaction to synthesize aldehydes, using chromyl chloride. For example:

C6H5CH3 + Cr02Cl2 -> C6H5CH(0CrCl2OH)2

C6H5CH(0CrCl2OH)2 + H2O -> C6H5CHO
