The Etard's Reaction is a commonly used chemical reaction to synthesize aldehydes , using chromyl chloride .
For example:
C6 H5 CH3 + Cr02 Cl2 -> C6 H5 CH(0CrCl2 OH)2
C6 H5 CH(0CrCl2 OH)2 + H2 O -> C6 H5 CHO
