This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the The X-Files article. This is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject.
This article is currently making use of four non-free pieces of media, and to me it seems that only one of them (the sound file) can really stand up as meeting WP:NFCC. The intertitle used in the infobox is wholly redundant to the free File:The X-Files logo.svg, while the images pulled from the title sequences are not in any way discussed critically or used to identify the work (there is discussion of the title sequence of the show but it does not offer commentary on the character portrait shots which are currently being used). My take on this would be to cut the title sequence images out entirely, replace the infobox intertitle with the aforementioned free alternative, and leave the sound file as is; does anyone have any meaningful rebuttal to this approach? That season nine sequence pic should go. Don't know when it got there. I'd be fine with the intertitle being phased out in favor of the free pic. Personally, I think the image of the title sequence is useful, but that's just me.--Gen. Quon(Talk)01:52, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I'd like the infobox image should stay. The X-Files title card is quite iconic and using the title card in the infobox is pretty standard for TV series articles. Same for the original opening credits image as it is discussed in the article. The removal of the season 9 one is fine as it's pretty redundant. Drovethrughosts (talk) 20:10, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Can we add a small segment for standalone episodes?
Hi, my name is Charlie, and I'm currently a student at College of DuPage. For my English class, I was given the assignment of editing a page on Misplaced Pages. Early last week I added a segment discussing standalone episodes throughout the X-Files series, and yesterday found that it had been taken down. I feel that my edit retained at least some significance as it further explained the character development of the show. I would just like some insight as to where I went wrong, and what I can do to improve my edit.
I assume you mean this edit? The reason it was reverted is two fold: 1) it was not sourced, and 2) it is redundant, considering that MOTWs are discussed on the page here (not to mention this page). The sourcing is the biggest issue, especially the assertion that the MOTWs were crafted so as to feature the growth of specific characters.--Gen. Quon(Talk)04:42, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Photo Choices
Could I please suggest David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson photographs that depict them during the 90s, during the run of the X-Files series? The 50's something Mulder isn't how we remember the best drama/scifi series aired on TV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.199.185 (talk) 04:10, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
If we have a freely-licensed photo of either actor from that time frame then sure, that would be preferable, but there is no fair use justification for a non-free image of either actor if we have free alternatives. GRAPPLE07:49, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
