The Green Screen of Death or GSOD is a screen of death that occurs on a TiVo digital video recorder and it indicates that it’s hard drive has failed. In the GSOD, there is a message that begins with "Severe Error" as it indicates that corrupted data is about to be repaired on the damaged hard drive. In most cases, the repairs are fixed without any troubleshooting, though it can take hours, and it cannot function in other ways, even if the box recovery is finished.

As the upgrades came into use, most people had no problems with the upgrades. During the time of TiVo’s first upgrades, some groups of people experienced problems with the upgrades, which streamlines one of the first causes of the green screen of death. Then, there is another cause other than upgrade issues called hard drive failures. These failures happen because of physical forces such as dropping, barring, and vice versa, overheating, data loss, hardware life expectancy, human error, extremely low and high temperatures, water damage, voltage surges, and even corrupted files. Because of the nerve-wracking causes of the hard drive failures and the upgrade issues, the end result is the green screen of death.
How to cope with the Green Screen of Death
After the green screen of death starts appearing on the screen, there has been some useful strategies to cope with the green screen of death.
