Johor Bahru, also spelled as Johor Baru or Johore Bahru and near-universally abbreviated JB, is the capital of Johor state in Malaysia. The city, which hosts a population of 400,000, is located at the southern tip of Malay Peninsula. This area has grown to a size of a Metropolis, which include smaller regions like Tampoi, Perling, Skudai and Pasir Gudang.

Outlook

The city itself hosts a series of network of roads, highways and flyovers and several beautiful skyscrapers, which includes shopping centres and hotels. However, due to the poor locality, many shopping centres that include the Best World Plaza and became bankrupt. Others, for example, the City Square, received bustling business as it was located between Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, the two roads that lead to the immigration checkpoint to Singapore. Many Singaporeans have a preference to shop there.

The Sultan's Palace is along Jalan Skudai.

Transport

The city itself is controlled by the Johor Bahru city council, but it is dividing into branches over the years as the city is expanding. The Tebrau highway, which connects the entire length of the Johor Bahru city, branches out to the North-South Expressway, becomes what is known as Jalan Pandan. This road acts as another highway that leads the traffic to Kota Tinggi, where it branches out to several other highways that goes to Mersing, Desaru, and even right up to Kuantan and Kota Bahru. However, traffic jams do occur around dawn and again and dusk, partly due to the fact that there are too many traffic light junctions and of its stony road. Another highway, the Pasir Gudang, leads vehicles to and fro from the Pasir Gudang port.

On the other hand, if one wants to travel around the entire Johor Bahru area itself, one can drive onto the Johor Bahru inner circle ring road itself, a circular expressway that takes a person to places that he wished to go.

Johor Bahru is also linked by the Causeway, which enables land transport to and fro from Singapore. Especially during dawn and dusk and weekends, the entire length of the Causeway will be flooded with traffic vehicles, mainly office workers who were going to or coming back from work, and also people going on a vacation. The Causeway is built in 1923.
