He started off at alternative radio station Channel Z, before he went on to host the music jukebox show Select Live. Defries has been chosen to present a new New Zealand- based live music show called Live at Yours.

Defries has a reputation for bringing a bizarre sense of humour to his show Vodafone Select Live.
