Russia Today TV is a global news channel from Russia that broadcasts in English and is owned by Russian news agency RIA-Novosti. It is available around the world via satellite and it hit the airwaves on December 10, 2005.

The goal of Russia Today TV is to present information about Russia, to give the viewers the opportunity to get acquainted with Russian views on world and domestic events. A major part of Russia Today TV air time is devoted to Russian and world news but it also airs business and sports news. In addition, Russia Today TV features documentaries on present-day life in Russia and its history.

In Russia viewers can watch RT as a part of the NTV Plus basic package.

The station is widely believed to be under Kremlin control, as are most television stations in Russia under President Vladimir Putin.

It is equally believed to be, in the vain of France 24 a political attempt to interject a Russian point of view into the international news market dominated by the American and British CNN and BBC World.
