Ordu is also famous for it's hazelnut production. Out of the approximate 70 percent total world hazelnut production that Turkey controls, over 50 percent of that is produced in Ordu. Ordu is also home to Sagra | Turkish, one of the largest Turkish manufacturers and exporters, and Fiskobirlik | Turkish - the largest hazelnut co-op in the world. The recent drop in hazelnut prices have lead farmers to expand honey production and other means of income. File:Ordu bees hazenut grove.jpg

"Ordu" was the name used for Army in Turkish nomadic tribes. It is from this word that the modern English word "horde" came from, as the nomads travelled in massive Armies, e.g. the Golden Horde. In Turkey, Ordu still means "Army", e.g. Birinci Ordu Komutanligi | Turkish (First Army Command) of the Turkish Land Forces.
