Vanessa Joy Amorosi (born 8 August 1981) is an Australian singer and recording artist.
She was born in Melbourne, Australia. Performing since the age of 12, Amorosi was discovered and signed to a recording contract in 1997. After being signed to MarJac Productions (co-owned by managers Mark Holden and Jack Strom), recording a promo CD and gaining a deal with Transistor Music Australia, her first single, titled "Have A Look", was a hit in Australia and narrowly missed reaching the Top 10 when it was released in 1999. Amorosi received critical praise from the Australian media for the power of her voice and the maturity of her lyrics.
A second single, titled "Absolutely Everybody", was an anthemic dance track that reached the Top 10, and with its positive lyrics, became an unofficial theme song for various cultural events. It remained in the Australian Top 20 Singles Chart for over six months after its release.
In 2000 two more singles "Shine" and "The Power" became major Australian hits, and her album The Power reached number one on the Australian album charts. Amorosi then performed at the NRL Grand Final. Her largest audience came in September 2000 with performances at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and at the Paralympic Games. At the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics she sang the Olympic song titled "Heroes Live Forever". In 2001 she performed at the AFL Grand Final.
"Absolutely Everybody" was released internationally and reached the Top 10 in the United Kingdom, and throughout Europe and South East Asia shortly after her Olympics performances, but subsequent releases met with little success. For her service to music she was later awarded the Australian Centenary Medal by the Government of Australia.
She continues to maintain a low-profile presence in the music industry, recording and performing in Australia and throughout the world.
On 25 January 2006, it was revealed on the AccessAllAreas.net website that Vanessa is now under the management of Ralph Carr, having completed her seven year management with MarJac Productions. She is quoted on the website as saying, "I have been with my previous management for seven years and thought both parties had gone as far as we could together... Moving over to Ralph Carr Management seemed like a natural progression, given the acts he has successfully managed. I am excited and enthused." It is reported that Amorosi's new album will be released in 2007.
On November 22, 2006 it was announced that Amorosi had signed to Universal Music Australia.
Vanessa's new album, released through Universal Music Australia, is expected 5 March 2007 .

Trivia
- The original demo for Change (found on the 'Change' album and 'Best Of') was much more upbeat and in keeping with the pop genre of Vanessa's debut album.
- True To Yourself was originally recorded as a duet with Olivia Newton-John, but was never used. Official reason was that talks between the artists record labels fell through, however rumour has it that Olivia felt as if Vanessa was overpowering her vocally on the track.
- The original lyrics to Shine were much more darker, with the chorus originally saying "Everyone you see, Everyone you know is gonna, die."
- The single versions of The Power and Every Time I Close My Eyes contain poor string production which causes soft 'clicks' throughout the two tracks. This prompted a new string version of Every Time I Close My Eyes to be made which was used on the album 'Turn To Me'.
- A videoclip for the German release of True To Yourself was filmed as the single was released, but apparently editing was scrapped after the track failed to spark the charts.
- Shine was used in a television campaign for the now defunct Australian Airline 'Ansett'. Originally Absolutely Everybody was to be used, and graphics had been produced with the slogan 'Absolutely'. However the advertising agency went to get song licenced only to find that someone else had advertising rights to it in that industry. Hence Shine was used, with the word 'Absolutely' mixed into the track.
- Vanessa does guest vocals on a Sash! track titled 'Gimme Tonight'. The track was to be on the 'S4 ' album, and appears on the album promo, but for some reason never made the final release. The promo got leaked and two years later a Melbourne radio station played the track. Play details get sent to the record company - and when Vanessa's Australian record company 'Transistor' read the name of the song on the list, it was the first they had heard about the track.
- The original demo for Spin was slower than the final release.
- There is an unreleased Alternative Mix for Sometimes Happiness which features much more production.
- Car company Mitsubishi used the song Absolutely Everybody in their television commercials.
- A movie theatre company also used Absoutely Everybody for their 'Summer at the Movies' campaign.
- Following the release of Change in Germany, there were talks of releasing 'Turning Up The Heat' as a single in Australia, however this was soon considered untimely as Australia had just began to experience drought.
