Summary
Description | Color photo of Commander Edward Whitehead, posing for a mid-20-century advertisement for Schweppes tonic |
---|---|
Author or copyright owner |
A photographer working for an ad agency (maybe Oglivy & Mather) who were in turn working for Schweppes |
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Original publication: In Schweppes advertisements in several American magazines Immediate source: The Greasy Spoon website )https://lukehoney.typepad.com/the_greasy_spoon/2017/05/commander-schweppes.html) |
Date of publication | 1863 |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Edward Whitehead |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of their biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
Whitehead's been dead since 1977, so... |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | It's used once in the one file. I shrunk it from the original. Permitted under the "photos of dead people" exception. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
I dunno. It's an old, small, not-super-high-quality o cropped from a 60 year old ad... While it's not utterly impossible that Schweppes would revive the Command Whitehead person (forgotten as he is, but you never know), but if so they're going to use a new actor. If they wanted to use the old photos, they have the originals in their archive, and the existence of this photo is not going to materially impact that campaign in the least. And I'm not seeing any other way to commercialize this photo. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 1978 |
