It has the postal code of Dublin 18. It is known to be a middle and upper middle class area with the majority of residents being professional people such as lawyers, engineers and businessmen. Most houses are large detached homes on varying amounts of land, the average being about an acre or so. The village of Foxrock is 'famous' as it is the only village in Ireland not to have a pub. Foxrock does not have the image of Dublin 4 as it does not have any fee-paying schools in the area, yet it is seen as a wealthy area. This is because the majority of children do attend private schools in Dublin 4.
In recent years the area has seen development as many people are building second houses or even apartments on their land, and then selling them for what is usually a substantial profit. This is mainly due to the enormous growth in the housing sector in Ireland.
The railway line from Harcourt Street used to pass by Foxrock. Although the line has been reopened as the green line of the Luas light rail system, the route currently terminates at Sandyford, before Foxrock. There are plans to extend the line.
