Major Disaster was a small-time crook who somehow wound up facing Green Lantern, a DC Comics superhero . He bought equipment which could create disasters, to cover his crimes. He later upgraded this, so that the equipment became internalised. He killed Kyle Rayner's girlfriend. Since then, he was approached (along with almost every other supervillain in the DCU) by Neron, a demon. He traded his soul for greatly enhanced powers, and briefly became a member of the Suicide Squad, before serving with the Justice League and the Justice League Elite.
He can now create disasters ranging from electrical blackouts and earthquakes to preventing machinery from working properly.
