Montreal (French, Montréal) is the largest city in Quebec, Canada; it was host of the World's Fair Expo '67 in 1967 and is the home town of the Montreal Expos baseball team. 3,511,800 people live in the Montreal area (Statistics Canada 2001).

As of January 1, 2002, the entire island of Montreal, home to 1.8 million people, falls under the jurisdiction of a new "megacity". Some 28 suburbs as well as the former city were folded into several boroughs.
